The geese

I was wrong. The geese have not flown north. This morning I saw a paired couple teaching three fuzzy gozzlings to swim. The gander, later on,  sat on the water honking to the goose and babies.

The ducks have also returned. They disappeared for a couple days, probably to Ross Island,  a mile or two down river.

WHAT DO WE DO IF...?

I don't  mean to be alarmist because for the first time in a long time I feel confident, this far out, that we are going to see Donald Trump and all of that wretched crowd, awfully disappointed. But what should we do if i am disappointed, if we are disapointed, and he is our next president? He and his family left in different directions, so that one of them would carry on the family bloodline. He was the fortunate one. It was a long and fascinating story, but what is important is that nobody gave in to the Thousand Year Reich while under occupation, The Reich that lasted maybe a dozen years. PHILOSOPHERS, PHILOSOPHIZERS, AND REPUBLICANS.

Shine a light in any building, or cave for that matter, and you will see people who claim to think about stuff. Some of them think a.lot about stuff. Among that small group can be found philosophers. They have academic credentials. They may not have the whole story, yet, but they can tell you who among their predecessors said stuff and its relevance to the great questions before us. They are also more likely to be able to help you with those moral ambiguities. Like, is moral outrage even moral? Does a moral imperitive need to be moral? Or imperitive? A much larger group are the philosophizers. This group extends on a continuum between those actively studying philosophy, but not yet awarded their PhD, to libertarians who are actively trying to find answers to those great mysteries, but are constrained within some Randian code of Objectivism. WHAT GOOD ARE REPUBLICANS?

I'm a Democrat. Except for a couple months in 1972, I always have been. I persist. What alternative is there? Back in 1972, I was young and full of myself. I figured that I would change my party affiliation, so I could vote for Congressman Paul McCloskey in his primary run for president against Richard Nixon. What could possibly go wrong? There were Republicans in that far-off time who were "not so bad". Some of them were personable, affable even. The kind of people you could invite for a cup of coffee and hope and hope they might counter with an invite for whiskey. When standing before a television camera, their fangs did not drip saliva when they spoke. As you may have guessed, I wasted that vote. Young people do that. Sometime during the Reagan administration Republicans became worse.
