RACISM AND FASCISM ARE TURDS THAT ARE DIFFICULT TO FLUSH DOWN THE TOILET

     Trump wants to declare ANTIFA a terrorist organization, even as he encourages the white backlash to the George Floyd killing at the hands police. ANTIFA, for those too dim to understand, stands for anti-fascist. If you are against anti-fascism you are by implication, FOR fascism or tolerant of it. Toleration is always desirable, but some things can never be tolerated. This group of deplorables, dare I say "basket of deplorables", includes racists, misogynists, homophobes, and fascists. Why pick on them, you might ask? The answer is that they are intolerant of the people they have targeted. Donald Trump deliberately encourages this open hatred because he is one of them. Tolerance allows expression even though it may not be practiced by the individual. Intolerance implies a complete denial of whatever activity is not tolerated. Intolerance eventually leads to abuses that can't be tolerated in civil society. This dilemma is confusing to us liberals, we are usually more accepting of other people because we defend human rights. Social conservatives seem to think human rights stop with them. Among those people are white racists, xenophobes, and fascists. In their name, people have been bullied, even killed. Rights have not been extended to people with whom they strongly disapprove. In short, we should not just teach tolerence generally, we must be against intolerance. You cannot be mildly against fascism or racism, we must be fully committed to oppose them! We must be anti-fascist anti-racist, anti xenophobe, anti-homophobe. They will not, it should be remembered, be tolerant of those of us whom they are told they should hate.
     It is acceptable to hate hatred. It is acceptable to hate the people who promote this hatred. They can not be normalized just because we get squeamish around the word hatred. Our hatred allows them to live and find employment as long as they conduct themselves civilly. (By-the-way, what is the difference between Civil Libertarians and libertarians? Answer: we're civil.) By contrast, their hatred can be harmful to life and property. 
     We do not defecate near a water source from which we drink. For most of human existance we have been smart enough to draw our drinking water from upstream of where we shit. For many decades we have ducted our turds into a sewerage system where the water can be sanitized and made drinkable. Why can we not see the racist/fascist/homophobe/xenophobe as turds whose very existance threatens our community health. We must flush them down the toilet, where they will be separated from the water, and made less toxic. Some, maybe most of these toxic turds can be rehabilitated, the rest we must ignore. Or even make the subject of humor.

     There are certain people who, without thinking very hard themselves, think they know enough to lecture the rest of us. Many of those people can be found in the party that believes there is something bad about being woke. This is where someone from that other party defensively exclaims, "but they're all the same". MY EX'S DOG LOVES ME

     My ex's dog likes me. An extreme like. Aww hell, call it love. When I drive up to their driveway, Wilbur is waiting, anxious for the  backdoor to open. When he is released he rushes my car, his hind parts moving rapidly from side to side. I'm a cat person. When we were married we had cats and a dog, all rescues. When we split up, I went petless for many years. Pinkie, my girlfriend who passed on a few years ago, wanted a cat. We were sharing a cabin cruiser on the Willamette River. The cat, Gracie, became all mine when Pinky went into assisted living and later hospice care. Gracie had gravitated to me anyway. Animals don't feel obliged to be what we want them to be.        I don't think it's possible not to love a dog or cat.
