CASSANDRA

There is this thing about myth and hoax that republicans can't comprehend. Well there are lots of things they don't comprehend, this being a party where comprehension is not valued, but I'll confine myself to these two.
Hoax, to a republican is any threat that threatens the subsidies of the corporations that control them. When the hoax is brought before them, they lock it in the closet with other things that they are told to ignore. The bigger the hoax the more accurate the perception.
But  myth, now there is the zenith of incomprehension. Ask a republican about Cassandra and most will wonder if that is the supple pole-dancer at the Gentleman's Club. Maybe 3 out of ten would know that she had the ability to foretell future events. Few would know the full story, knowledge in depth not being a talent republicans aspire to.
Cassandra was the niece of King Prium of Troy. The Troy of the Trojan War. You have lost them by now,

                    "I bet she was hot"

they might struggle to keep up. She was able to see into the future, but because she had rebuffed the advances of the young god Apollo, he had declared that she will never be believed. Well that sure wipes out this clairvoyance thing. She warned her uncle to, "beware Greeks bearing gifts". He didn't. She was captured by Ajax the Lesser, which implies there was a Greater Ajax. An amusing thought when you reflect on the household cleanser pre-liberation women knew all too well. The younger Ajax gave her to one of the kings, Manalaeas or Agememnon as spoils of war. She warned him that if he took her back to his island his wife and son would drown him. They did. And Cassandra was relieved by death of her broken gift.
Think now of Liz Cheney as Cassandra. The republican daughter of royalty, and unused to toeing a line drawn by powerful men. She has, since January 6, warned republicans of trumps' bearing gifts. Let that conman into the party and we will live to regret it, she would say, and she was ignored at first, then punished. Here's where the similacrum gets disturbing. Kevin McCarthy is the squarest, most disgusting Apollo one can think of. He's not even young, and what women would be caught in the toga-closet with him? But he tried to weaken her gift, and may have failed.
Maybe McCarthy would be Ajax the lesser, it would have a more satisfying sound to those of us not admirers of republicans. He presents Rep. Cheney to the fat-ass former president, hardly the image of a Greek King, but certain to suffer a yet unclear fate befitting a Greek myth. Whatever the interpretation, the Trojan war is a not-well understood relic of a history republicans never knew. Cassandra is remembered as a women that sees some future danger, pick your subject. And then the republicans will ignore the prediction, and will be drowned in the bath. What is most disturbing of all, is that Troy was also lost to the distant annals of a not well understood (by republicans) history. We are the Trojans, actually Illliums, but that is too awkward.
