This lawsuit is going forward challenging the Oregon Sanctuary Law so the US Attorney General can send in federal troops, along with ICE officials. Suppose you are successful; suppose Black SUVs are a daily presence in Portland, Eugene, and Salem. We will have people hired by the puppy-killer lady and the Attorney General cliche' for blond. Men and women who have been quickly hired and poorly-trained by these poor examples of leadership. Even worse some of them may be people who desire the excitement of gun-fire.  This is the script for another Kent State. Do you Madame Commissioner want your Visage splashed all over Facebook after such an event? I am not sure that this will help your political aspirations. THE OREGON REPUBLICAN LEGISLATOR: IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR WAY, WALK OUT.

    Oregon is generally a blue state, thanks to the major population areas on the west side of the Cascades. The eastern half of the state is a much different story. Thanks to the motor-voter bill, signed into law a few years ago, and mail-in voting , that has been in place since about 1987, the Republican party has not been successful at voter suppression. Thus, the GOP holds a minority of seats in both houses of the legislature. In the Senate, Democrats have a veto-proof majority. Thus, the only legislative tactic left to them is a walkout which denies a quorum. They have done this twice, in two consecutive legislative sessions. Both times have been over the issue of cap-and-trade. In 2019, one legislator, Brian Boquist of Dallas, actually threatened to shoot any state cop who came to take him to the capitol. ROBERT

     I first met Robert when he walked into our Toastmasters meeting at Warner Creek Correctional Facility, a minimum security prison. We were a small group of ten to twelve reliable members. On that particular night we were expecting a new member to give his Icebreaker speech. People usually take a few weeks to write that speech, partly to overcome their shyness and fear, and partly to compose a speech that will withstand the inevitable critique. That person did not show up. Robert offered to step into the spotlight with no script or preparation. He gave a remarkably good speech. Funny, self-effacing, and honest. Robert was a full-blooded Native-American, an Ojibwa from the province of Ontario, Canada. He had left school in the fifth grade and run away from home. First Nation tribal members were given dual US and Canadian citizenship, mostly because their ancestral tribes may well have been forced to move north by the US cavalry.
