WHAT GOOD ARE REPUBLICANS?

I'm a Democrat. Except for a couple months in 1972, I always have been. I persist. What alternative is there? Back in 1972, I was young and full of myself. I figured that I would change my party affiliation, so I could vote for Congressman Paul McCloskey in his primary run for president against Richard Nixon. What could possibly go wrong? There were Republicans in that far-off time who were "not so bad". Some of them were personable, affable even. The kind of people you could invite for a cup of coffee and hope and hope they might counter with an invite for whiskey. When standing before a television camera, their fangs did not drip saliva when they spoke. As you may have guessed, I wasted that vote. Young people do that. MY BRIEF EXPOSURE TO THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT

I think I was about 14 or 15. The boy becoming the man, with the zits to show for it. I was learning my politics at family gatherings, encouraged by my uncles. The usual topic, aside from the careful talk about WWII, was Vietnam. It was known at that time as a "police action" but would soon be declared a bonified war. For a very bone-headed reason. I wrote a letter to the Editor of the Oregon Statesman, there being two Salem papers of record at that time. I opined passionately on the Vietnam War and patriotism as only a fifteen year-old male with a face full of acne could. At sometime during my rant, with no attempt at subtelty, I called our two great Senator's, Wayne Morse (D) and Mark Hatfield (R), "worms in the bowels of government". They were, and still are among our great Senators. Marion County Commissioners.

My name is Larry Ramsay and I live in zip code 97301. This lawsuit is going forward challenging the Oregon Sanctuary Law so the US Attorney General can send in federal troops, along with ICE officials. Suppose you are successful; suppose Black SUVs are a daily presence in Portland, Eugene, and Salem. We will have people hired by the puppy-killer lady and the Attorney General cliche' for blond. Men and women who have been quickly hired and poorly-trained by these poor examples of leadership. Even worse some of them may be people who desire the excitement of gun-fire.  This is the script for another Kent State. Do you Madame Commissioner want your Visage splashed all over Facebook after such an event? I am not sure that this will help your political aspirations. The Republican regime in Washington DC will stink up the way local republican politics will be regarded for years to come in Oregon because they will be here telling you how to do your job, if you know what's good for you...
