THE JESUS NUT.

In a recent post on Facebook someone posted a picture of a hexagonal nut  in a thick coat of industrial Grey. It was called, the post claimed, The Jesus nut. So-called because if that nut that holds the mast to your helicopter,should come loose, Jesus is your only savior. That mast, that would allow the prop blades to spin as your helicopter descends, will be spinning off behind you and your helicopter is reaching terminal velociry as it falls. I surmise that another reason it has been given that name, Jesus nut, is because one or more of the occupants that witness that cataclysmic event, will be inclined to say, "oh, Jesus", or some other exclamation. 

We are all familiar with this proper noun connected with an adjective. It refers to an ardent supporter of Jesus. Some people who are ardent in their faith do not deserve this title. The people that recognize Jesus' teachings as being simply, to not be an asshole to others. Jimmy Carter, a nuclear physicist in the navy, and former President of the United States, is one such person of great faith. There are others but we will not be discussing them here.  Others, who deserve the title Jesus nut, Dominionist Christians and others who have fallen under the MAGA cult. People who think there is something wrong with 'woke' or people who do not acknowledge the connection between diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and Jesus' beatitudes. Such people do not see the sermon on the mount as being a noble lesson. Should this become our future in 2025, we are likely to see that helicopter mast that slows our descent, become a part of our longed for past. And the Jesus nut will once again be the culprit. The Jesus nut where the noun is proper, but the understanding is faulty. On that day the beatitudes will be changed to suit the MAGA cult.

     ● Blessed are the inheritors of wealth for they will not be called diversity hires.
     ● Blessed are they who mourn the days of regulations for they will be comforted by the image of the oppressed.
     ● Blessed are the strong, for they will do to the land as they will, and the meek will inherit what remains.
     ● Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for power, for they will slake their thirst and feed their hunger at will, and the rest of us get what's left over.
     ● Blessed are the vindictive, for they will be rewarded by the cult leader.
     ● Blessed are the heartless creeps, for they will serve the leader.

     I started smoking pot in about my 18th year. It was not love at first sight, more of an occasional dalliance. Alcohol had place of honor for a while. PINKY: IN MEMORIAM

    On 2:53 AM, March 24, 2022, Pinky Conklin was relieved of the chronic pain that had bedeviled her most of her life. She was 79 years old. I was only with her a few short years, 3 of them where she was reasonably ambulatory, but we had some fun together. When we started our relationship she was living with one of her sons and his wife in Prineville, Oregon. She was 8 blocks from a senior center, but had no public transport to get her there and she walked unstably with a cane. I thought she could get better treatment in Portland, she was trying to get hip replacement, but I lived on my little 27' Bayliner cruiser. I was living the dream I had held in my mind for some four decades. I did not think she could handle the rigors of marina life, but my purchase of the boat, and the necessary costs of maintaining a boat were taxing my resources.       For a while she was able to live with a relative in Tigard. IT COULD HAPPEN HERE.

     Recently I was given a task by Professor Wen at Willamette University . She is conducting a study on generations with her class. Since I am of an older generation,  i represent my demographic. My task was to make a presentation of my writing to a small group of students from the class she is teaching. I knew immediately what I would present to her Generations group.      Some years ago in my mid 20's I hitch-hiked to Southern California. On a typical sunny California day I found myself sitting in the well-heeled comfort of Marina Del Rey.  An old man struck up a conversation with me. He was then, around my age now.     He was clearly Jewish, that distinctive nose and the Eastern European accent.
