Here's my problem with the Republican party as it exists today. I watched you people trap Gary Hart in a honey trap and ruin his political career. For something you people do all the time. I watched you people impeach Bill Clinton for an act that Newt Gingerich and other prominent Republicans could have been tried for. I watched Reagan do away with the Fairness Doctrine, and how the political spectrum has been cheapened since then. We still tried to work with you. We saw you halt the 2000 recount in Miami-Dade County for 600 votes. Three of the people who stopped the recount went on to become Justices on the Supreme Court. You told us, "it's over, get over it". I haven't. We watched you people claim erroneously, that John Kerry shot himself in the butt to get a purple heart. We watched the Republican TV channel get their panties in a bunch over Howard Dean's perfectly normal scream. All of these were designed to weaken what would otherwise be perfectly normal approaches to democracy, that you could not abide. We watched you accuse our first and only African American President of not being a citizen. We watched you deny that your lies were lies. We watched the tea-party Americans put on tri-corner hats and conflate patriotism with being white. We watched you send one of your own, Bob Dole packing when he tried to get the Senate to approve changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act. We heard you when you claimed that Hillary was running a child sex ring from the basement of a pizza parlor. There was no basement in that Pizza parlor. Ironically, the guy you elected was credibly accused of abusing young girls on an island owned by Jeffery Epstein. But that was okay with you. And don't get me on the bribing of at least 3 conservative Justices to the Supreme Court by billionaires with possible business before the court.

Things got worse. Donald Trump lost the 2020 election but refused to admit it in spite of not one court ruling for him. He caused an insurrection on Jan 6 2021, and you people called it tourism. He was twice impeached but never convicted by you people. You even selected him to run against President Biden, knowing that he had hinted that he would weaponize the justice department, and then he did, as well as other government agencies. We watched him send federalized troops to blue states whose sin was to oppose Donald Trump. 

So why should we find ways to find comity with the Republican party? Why should we respect you? Why should we not just break away from the Union and become the better Republics that we strive to become? That's all on you people. My way or the highway is not how you run a democracy, it is the way Republicans rule. What you have accomplished with your winner-take-all politics is not to enliven an opposition party but create a resistance movement.

My name is Larry Ramsay and I live in zip code 97301. This lawsuit is going forward challenging the Oregon Sanctuary Law so the US Attorney General can send in federal troops, along with ICE officials. Suppose you are successful; suppose Black SUVs are a daily presence in Portland, Eugene, and Salem. We will have people hired by the puppy-killer lady and the Attorney General cliche' for blond. Men and women who have been quickly hired and poorly-trained by these poor examples of leadership. Even worse some of them may be people who desire the excitement of gun-fire.  This is the script for another Kent State. THE OREGON REPUBLICAN LEGISLATOR: IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR WAY, WALK OUT.

    Oregon is generally a blue state, thanks to the major population areas on the west side of the Cascades. The eastern half of the state is a much different story. Thanks to the motor-voter bill, signed into law a few years ago, and mail-in voting , that has been in place since about 1987, the Republican party has not been successful at voter suppression. Thus, the GOP holds a minority of seats in both houses of the legislature. In the Senate, Democrats have a veto-proof majority. Thus, the only legislative tactic left to them is a walkout which denies a quorum. They have done this twice, in two consecutive legislative sessions. Both times have been over the issue of cap-and-trade. In 2019, one legislator, Brian Boquist of Dallas, actually threatened to shoot any state cop who came to take him to the capitol.
